"Where Has Polly Gone?" is a
children's book written by Lisa Service and illustrated by Najdan Mancic.
In this book, the author brings the
much needed creative combination of math concepts, in this case polygons, and
literature into your classrooms and homes.
This is a simple but wonderfully written book to spark an interest in
and create excitement around polygons. I
could most certainly see this book being used within the classroom as an
introduction to a math lesson. This is
an enjoyable story that can create engagement around this geometric concept and
serve as an introductory scaffold to the vocabulary term polygon. I have included below some common core
standards this book would be a great fit for.
The illustrations within the book provide clues as to what the term
polygon may mean. One could undoubtedly
be inspired to design creative lesson plans around this story. Kudos to both Lisa Service and Najdan Mancic
for their collaboration on a story that brings literature and math together!
